On Thursday, November 13, many students and faculty participated in a blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross. Organized by faculty member Ms. Alicia Psillos, Xavier hosts a blood drive biannually each academic year, once in the fall and once in the spring. The event was a great success and the Red Cross was very grateful to receive blood contributed by students and faculty of the Xavier community.

On Thursday, November 13, the Medical Science Club hosted John Muller, M.D. ’75, Xavier alumnus and practicing anesthesiologist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. His visit was organized by guidance counselor and club moderator Ms. Laura Amigone. Dr. Muller '75 spoke about his educational and professional experience and the steps he felt were crucial for his success.

For the last few years, Matthew Ko ’15 has volunteered for Broadway Kids Care, an organization that brings together young Broadway actors and friends to perform meaningful community service and engage in philanthropic outreach throughout the New York City area. Recently with Broadway Kids Care, Matthew played a fundamental role in assisting Good Morning America’s “Warm Coats and Warm Hearts” coat drive held in conjunction with the Burlington Coat Factory. For his work, Matthew was featured live on Good Morning America. We had the opportunity to sit down with Matthew to discuss his work with Broadway Kids Care, his time at Xavier, and his views on the importance of service.

On the weekend of November 15-17, the Ignatian Solidarity Network hosted the Ignatian Family Teach-In For Justice in Washington, D.C. Xavier sent 20 students and faculty to learn, advocate, and pray for pressing social justice issues affecting the world, and to remember the 25th anniversary of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador and other Jesuit martyrs throughout history who have been killed because of their faith. In this effort, Xavier joined over 1,600 students and faculty from Jesuit high schools and universities throughout the country.
