Soccer and Football athletes honored following great seasons.

Members of Xavier's soccer and football teams were recognized for their outstanding achievements on the field on Sat., Jan. 23rd, with breakfast and awards ceremonies. Parents and special guests snapped team photos and heard from the coaches, who gave season highlights as well as individual awards.

Athletes from both soccer teams - the 6-3-3 JV team, which finished second in the CHSAA A-division and the 4-6-2 Varsity team, which finished fourth in the A-division - were at hand, and individual awards called out special accomplishments. Junior Gianluca Masucci '11 was named the Varsity Soccer MVP. Longtime coach SFC Wayne Atherton remarked that the team's performance and confidence has improved so dramatically this season and, in addition, he was presented with a gift to mark his his effort and determination after 15 years of coaching!

Soccer Individual Awards:
Best Defensive Players: Thomas Snyder and Conor Bulger
Best Midfield Players: Justin Montero and Gianluca Masucci
Best Forward Players: Eddie Sullivan and Mark Frontera
Most Improved Players: Matthew McKibben and James Kondrat
All-city Team Members: Thomas Dalton and Justin Montero
MVP: Gianluca Masucci

Star athletes from all three football teams - the 5-3 Freshman Knights, the 3-5 JV Knights, and the 7-4 Varsity Knights - were also presented with special awards. For the Varsity Knights team, Chris Mattina ' 11 received Best Offensive Player, Sean Kelly '10 received Best Defensive Player, and John Gearity '10 was named Varsity Football MVP.

Coaches Award Defense - Domenic DeFalco (CHSFL ALL LEAGUE)
Coaches Award Offense - John Wilson
Best Offensive Player - Chris Mattina

Most Valuable Player - John Gearity
