Euroy Smith '10 at the Rockin' Refuel contest.

What a week it was for Euroy Smith '10! The Xavier Knights' basketball season culminated in an exciting semi-final game which was a narrow loss on Tuesday, but by Thursday Smith was on top of the heap, walking away with a $10,000 college scholarship courtesy of Shamrock Farms after a basketball trick-shot contest held at the school. Euroy's powerful reverse dunk was all the judges needed to see! Euroy is a true class act, and a graduate of Brooklyn Jesuit Prep!

E-News:
First off, you had a crazy week - the team did great in the season, but lost by just one point on Tuesday. Today, you won $10,000 in a trick-shot contest - are all your weeks this exciting?!

Euroy Smith '10: Its definitely been an exciting week. We played in the city semi-finals, which no one would have thought we were going to make it. We worked hard all season and sadly things didn't go the way we wanted but it is always better to look at what we (as a team) accomplished this season. It's heartbreaking knowing you put so much time and effort into something, but fell short.

The trick shot contest is my highlight of the week. I was excited for it to happen. Students in the school were also excited for it. so its good that everyone could appreciate what Mr. McCabe and the administration did for us.

E-News: What was it like to go from Nativity school to Xavier, and how did you feel about going to another Jesuit school?

Euroy Smith '10: Going from Nativity School to Xavier isn't a dramatic change. The way the school is kept up and ran is still the same. The biggest difference would be the amount of students and faculty at Xavier. At my old middle school, Brooklyn Jesuit Prep, we were a very small school having hardly 50 students at the time. Xavier almost pushed that up to 1000 students. Moving from one Jesuit School to another was something I was looking forward to. I see being at a Jesuit school as a blessing and, really, a great opportunity.

E-News: How would you describe your experiences on and off the court at Xavier?

Euroy Smith '10: My experiences on and off the court at Xavier were amazing and are times I will never forget. Basketball-wise, my teammates are like my brothers. We continually pulled for each other and helped each other out. We had our own unwritten policy "no player left behind." I will never forget them after I graduate. School has been great with my four years at Xavier.

When I think about my teachers, I will remember how supportive they always were. They were always available to talk about a situation in class or just willing to talk and have a few laughs. They are "friends outside your friends." The student body at Xavier always made life here every enjoyable. There hasn't been a day at Xavier where I haven't smiled, to be honest. My friends here truly made my Xavier experience like none other, I will miss them terribly when our journey is over.

E-News: What kind of things are you interested in outside of school?

Euroy Smith '10: Outside of school, I do a lot of service with my middle school. I like to keep in contact with them and keep in touch with the kids there.

E-News: Where are you thinking of going for college, and do you plan on playing ball?

Euroy Smith '10: Well I have a few choices in mind for college, especially for basketball. Currently I am looking at The College of Holy Cross, Fairfield University, Liberty University, Nazareth College, St. Lawrence University, and Virginia Union University. Hopefully things go well with this process.
